Auditions

The 170-voice Knoxville Choral Society performs small- and large-scale choral works under the direction of artistic director Eric Thorson and frequently joins the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Lucas Richman.

The Knoxville Chamber Chorale, a select group of singers drawn from the KCS, performs more intimate works under the direction of assistant director Bill Brewer. Auditions for the Chamber Chorale are open to KCS members and are scheduled by the artistic director as needed.

All singers volunteer their services and are selected by audition. Rehearsals for KCS are held on Monday evenings from 7:30 to 9:30, throughout the concert season. During performance weeks, singers are expected to attend additional rehearsals.

An audition includes the evaluation of:
  • Vocal quality
  • Sight-reading
  • Tonal memory drills
